Alice Marie Bunnell

Alice Marie Bunnell 1933 ~ 2019 Alice Marie Bunnell (ne Johnson), age 85, a resident of Orange County, California, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2019 after a long battle with dementia. She was born May 8, 1933 in White Plains, New York to Mary Rebecca Johnson and David William Johnson, M.D. Alice attended Mamaroneck Avenue Kindergarten, St. Bernard Church and Elementary School, and White Plains High School where she was an active cheerleader. According to her sister, Frances, Alice took ballet lessons in elementary school and loved going to the roller skate rink on Saturdays as well as ice skating in the winters. She took advanced classes in science and sewing while attending White Plains High School. Alice was awarded a degree from the School of Nursing under the combined program of the University of Connecticut and White Plains Hospital School of Nursing. She completed her nurses training in New York and also worked in the psychiatric ward at Bloomingdale Hospital. Alice met James "Jim" Paul Bunnell, of Loveland, Ohio on a visit to see her sister and brother-in-law, Fran and Jack Shelley. Within a year they were married on October 2, 1954 at St. Bernards Church in White Plains, New York. They resided in Loveland where they raised their family of five children and where Jim owned and operated the Loveland Motor Company for many years. Alice was an avid dog lover and always had a loyal best friend at her side. In 1983, Alice and Jim relocated to Southern California. There, she enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and cake decorating for special celebrations. Alice was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years as well as her brother David William Johnson. She is survived by her sister, Frances Johnson Shelley. Alice is survived by four of her five children, Earnest, Mary, Lisa, and David. Her eldest son James predeceased her on August 5, 2018. Alice had ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life was held on February 16, 2019 at Christ Our Savior Catholic Parish in Santa Ana, California.
