Allen D Thompson

September 7, 1965 — December 19, 2018

Allen D. Thompson Sept. 7, 1965-Dec. 19, 2018 "In all the world, there is no heart for me like yours. In all the world, there is no love for you like mine." Maya Angelou Allen was the oldest of three sons born to Robert and Judith, and a big brother to Andy and Aaron. He loved them alleven as a best friend (and sometimes counselor and mentor). He was an uncle, cousin, nephew, friend, co-worker, punster and more. He shared his life for more than 33 years with his beloved wife, Tania. Allen was an amazing personloving, gentle, ingenious, geeky, talented, curious, witty, gregarious, introspective, funny, mischievous, shy, spontaneous, rational and a dreamer. He deeply loved his wife, Tania. Theirs was a devoted-to-each-other love story that saw them through times of wonder and delight, and a few of woe. But together, they were centered and took on the world as a team. They shared a spirit of discovery and embraced an experiential life, enjoying living and traveling through the western states. He loved riding motorcycles and going on long-distance tours, he loved tracking the adventures and achievements of public and private space agencies and he loved taking things apart and putting them back together. Or building things from scratch. Allen made friends, everywherenear and farin person and in the digital realm. He loved his friends unconditionally and with complete acceptance of who they were. He had compassion for peoplebeing supportive, lending a shoulder, listening, helping, finding solutions, hugging or sometimes just sitting quietly nearby. He also had a soft spot for critterstabby cats and dachshunds. He grieved when several of those walked over the Rainbow Bridge; were sure that Hari, Rei, Hunter and Koda were waiting for him. The two cats left behind on that final day are still waiting for him to come home; and they grieve. A spark ignited in high school when he got involved with his high schools radio program and earned a coveted spot on the special "Summer Sound" program. As a DJ, he kept his fellow staff members rolling on the floor, laughing, before that even became a trendy acronym. He loved creating music and using his voice. Shortly before his death, he had returned to recording music. Music, in general, was a great passion, whether writing, recording or performing. He was a self-taught guitarist who, through the years, acquired a veritable orchestra of instruments and enjoyed making joyful noize and other kinds of music. He was blessed with a golden voice and his last recording was for Taniaa cover of Eric Claptons You Look Wonderful Tonight. He found his place working for several high tech companies, took on progressively challenging work and nailed it each time; he was the rare person who read manuals and documentation and applied the knowledge to find solutions. He felt incredibly fortunate to have worked, short-term, for his tech companys London location and got a kick out of British bobbies, the Tube, the pub and the many people he got know (who jovially called him "The Yank") during this adventure.
