Arthur Oscar Radke

March 2, 1934 — September 6, 2017

Arthur Oscar Radke, Jr. "Art", 83, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2017. Art was born in 1934 near Bangor, Pennsylvania, to his parents, Arthur Radke, Sr., and Gertrude (Steinborn) Radke. He spent his formative years growing up in Bangor, where he also worked in his parents hotel and restaurant business, and enjoyed his time with his dogs and pet duck. Soon after graduating from High School, Art served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed at the Condon Air Force Station (Radar Surveillance) in Condon, Oregon. It was in Condon, Oregon, where Art met the love of his life, Janet Jean Wilkins "Jan", while she was selling popcorn at the local movie theater. They fell in love and were married on September 16, 1956, at St. Johns Catholic Church in Condon, Oregon. Upon discharge from the Air Force, Art and Jan moved to Portland, Oregon, where Art accepted a sales position at Stanley Drug Pharmaceuticals, and began his 52 year career in the Pharmaceutical Industry. They soon started their family. Art and Jan resided in Mission Viejo, CA for 30 years. Art was happiest having his wife near him always. He loved to stay busy by walking his dog, spending time caring for his yard, roses, and vegetable gardens, working at his computer, traveling, going to Lake Mission Viejo, and the Recreation Center to swim. Art always missed the beautiful Northwest and memories of Salmon Fishing on the Columbia River, and the rolling wheat fields and hunting in Eastern Oregon, so Art and Jan visited frequently. Art loved going to Laguna Beach with his wife Jan to relax and enjoy sunsets and ocean views. Art would frequently say "Every day is a gift for me", and lived as he meant it. He was a sensitive, strong, and giving man, who deeply loved his family. He will truly be missed by his family, and all who knew him. Art is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janet, and their son Steve Radke, and his wife Debbi of Monument, CO; their daughter Gayle Cannon of Aliso Viejo, CA; four grandchildren, Janet Cannon, Arthur John Cannon and Sean Cannon, all from Aliso Viejo, CA and Sarah (Radke) Franck, and her husband David of Columbus, MS; one great-grandchild, Ethan Franck; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Gertrude, and his sister Evelyn. A Celebration of Arts life will be held with family in the near future. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Arthur Radkes name may be made to the Alzheimers Association. Funeral Home: Pacific Cremation Society 22772 Centre Drive, Suite 130 Lake Forest, CA 92630
