Carol I. Mehl-Erickson (1932- 2025)
Carol Ione Mehl, 93, passed away on April 8, 2025 at Arbor Lakes Nursing Home in Farmerville, Louisiana.
Carol was born in Thomson, Iowa on January 1, 1932 to Martin Cornelius Erickson and Emma Ione (Peterson) Hansing. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson, IA. Her grandparents Peter H. Peterson and Carrie H. Halvorsen came to America in 1827 from the Telemark region in Norway. Her grandparents Erickson also came from Norway. They all settled in Iowa.
She grew up in Thompson, IA and graduated from Thompson High School. She graduated from Waldorf College in Forest City, IA (1951). In 1953 she married Raymond L. Mehl and they were blessed with five children. She supported Ray in his ministry while raising their children. She worked in Lutheran Social Services, Minneapolis, MN; Parish Secretary at Lake Nokomis Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN; Receptionist at the Student Center, Waldorf College. She and Ray later divorced and remained friends. Later in life she moved to California to be near most of her children. She was secretary and receptionist to Robert Schuller Ministries, Garden Grove, CA, until she retired.
The role she loved the most was being a mother to her five children and loved them dearly.
Carol was proceeded in death by her ex-husband, Ray Mehl; her son Stephen Mehl; her brother Adrian Hansing his wife Lorraine; her sister Pernelle Hansing-Schaefer; her brother Marlyn Hansing and his wife Gerda; her sister Ardys and her husband Fred Dommer; her sister Mavis Erickson-Langerud and husband Dick Langerud.
She is survived by her four children Kevin Mehl, Dr. David Mehl and his wife Kathy, Kristin (Kitty) Mehl and her wife Linda Hermann, Jeffrey Mehl and his wife Sally; grandson David T Mehl and wife Leigh, two great grandchildren, David Z. Mehl and Kadyn B. Mehl, and granddaughter Dr. Stephanie (Mehl) Glod and her husband Michael.
Her interests included reading, traveling, music, playing bingo and swimming. She loved to plan parties and host gatherings at her house for friends and parishioners. She loved to bake and decorate themed birthday cakes for her children.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Mission Lutheran Church in Laguna Niguel. There will be a live stream on the link below beginning at 12:50 pm on the 24th.
