Franklin Theodore Garrison 1933 2018 Ted was born December 11, 1933 in Wewoka, Oklahoma to Elsie and C.C. Shurley. It was the middle of the depression and C.C. left the family to seek work. Elsie had to fend for herself and her baby. She was forced to give Ted up for adoption when he was eight months old. Evelyn (Boob) and Max Finley (Jack) Garrison became his parents and raised him in Tulsa, Oklahoma. C.C. returned to Elsie and eighteen months later they had another son, Edwin Wayne.C.C. and Elsie divorced, but Elsie was able to keep Wayne after finding work. Ted and Wayne grew up without knowing each other, sometimes living as close as six blocks apart. When Ted was fifteen, his adoptive mother left the family. Jack was ill, and he pulled Ted out of school to go to work. Jack passed away in 1953. Ted enlisted in the Navy and before reporting to Boot Camp a lady that worked at the local A & W Root beer stand put two and two together and introduced Ted to Wayne. Wayne didnt believe they were brothers at first, so he took Ted home to confront Elsie. She confirmed that Ted was her son. Ted and Wayne developed a strong friendship and remained lifelong friends. Wayne joined the Army and made a career out of his service, retiring to live in Germany. Ted was in the Navy from June of 1953 to May of 1959, as a Machinist Mate. In 1956 he was part of Operation Redwing, witnessing the destruction of Bikini Island when the Navy tested the Hydrogen Bomb. He was a proud Korean Veteran, and a great athlete playing baseball for the Navy. While stationed in San Diego he met and married Linda Routh. They had three children, Jack Vernon, Jenny Lee, and Daniel Wayne. After leaving the Navy he worked as a rough neck in the oil fields around Signal Hill until he was accepted into the apprenticeship program at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard. Upon graduation he worked for the federal government at DCAS in various programs in quality control. He was NASA certified and worked in the space program, including the Challenger and the Columbia. He obtained an A.A. degree from Long Beach City College, going to school at night. He coached little league and soccer in Garden Grove, and he also refereed soccer. He loved playing softball on a mens team. He was playing soccer up until the age of forty-nine when he pulled a hamstring and the doctor advised him to take up a less strenuous sport. Ted bowled on the Los Alamitos league in Garden Grove. He loved golf and camping and took his children on many wonderful vacations with lifelong friends. Before the road was paved, Ted and his friends rode motorcycles down to the tip of Baja California several times taking the boys with them on these adventures. He married Patricia Power in 1981 and his family grew to include Katherine Lynn, Douglas Emery, and Sondra Jayne Power. In 1982 the family moved to Oxnard, CA and he started a successful consulting company. He did a great deal of consulting for Parker Hannefin and was offered a full-time work for the company in 1986. He accepted the job and Pat, Sondra, and Ted moved to Laguna Hills, Ca. Ted retired from Parker Hannefin in 1997. Ted enjoyed golfing, building model trains, and ships. He loved to camp and travel, especially to Maui. He was full of fun, a guy who loved God, his country, his wife, his children, his stepchildren, his grandchildren, his great-grandchildren, and his dog, Abner, with every inch of his being. He was pre-deceased by his daughter, Jennie, a daughter-in-law, Lorie, a grandson, Eric, and a granddaughter, Madison. His memorial will be held on Saturday, July 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Geneva Presbyterian Church, 24301 El Toro Road, Laguna Hills. In his memory, we urge you to hug your family and let them know how much they mean to you.
