Garett Grants Twardy

October 24, 1945 — September 30, 2022

Garett Grants Twardy, 76 years of age, passed away on September 30th, 2022, at home in Ladera Ranch, CA. He was diagnosed with cancer that had metastasized to his bones in April and the disease progressed quickly after diagnosis.

Garett was born in Doylestown, PA on October 24th, 1945, to parents Edward and Luise Kaufmann Twardy. He served our country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War in the 1960’s, it was one of the highlights of his life. On November 4th, 1971, Garett and Debra Ragland Twardy were married in Walkersville, WV. Garett is survived by his wife, Debra, four children & their spouses: Terra (Randy) Saffen, Shamess (Micah) Twardy, Josh (Becky) Twardy and Justin Twardy. Garett also has six beautiful grandchildren: Eli Saffen, Chloe, Emma, Lucy, Isabelle & Jake Twardy.

Garett was known to be the life of the party in his youth. He always had a story or joke to tell, and his laugh was infectious. Garett accepted Christ as his Savior in the late 1970’s and always strove to emulate Christ in his love and care for others. He was a friend to the weak and weary and often welcomed people in need into his home for as long as they needed him. He was a lover of music, movies, and trivia and, until Google, he knew everything! He loved baseball and spent many afternoons with his boys on the field “having a catch” and served at Lions Park Little League in Zionsville, IN in the 1990’s. In 2012, Garett and Debra retired and left their home in Zionsville, IN where they raised their family to begin the adventure of their lives. They became fulltime “RVer’s” and traveled the country for 10 years. Garett was never happier than he was behind the wheel listening to great music and enjoying our beautiful country. During their adventures, Garett and Debra spent a lot of time in California, Texas and Florida.

The family plans to have a celebration of Garett’s life at his farm in West Virginia sometime in 2023. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital.

Garett will remain in our hearts forever. We love him more than a bumble can fly! Go rest high on that mountain, Garett!
