Gregory Lee Marquard

April 13, 1948 — July 19, 2022

CAPISTRANO BEACH, CA -- Gregory Lee (Greg) Marquard, 74, died July 19, surrounded by his family, after a battle with lung cancer. A lifelong resident of Southern California, Greg was born in Pasadena and graduated from Glendora High School. A U.S. Army veteran, Greg served as an infantryman in the Vietnam War, honorably discharged in 1971 with the rank of Specialist 4 (SP4). He resided in Capistrano Beach for the past 30 years with his devoted wife, Linda, of 34 years. Greg retired in 2012 after 27 years with the City of San Juan Capistrano, where he was a Senior Maintenance Worker. He later worked as a Consulting Maintenance Specialist for the County of Orange. Greg was a Renaissance man. A master Volkswagen mechanic, he built one VW bug from scratch and acquired numerous others over the years. He collected antique furniture and decorative objects, and was a talented wood carver. An avid surfer, Greg also collected vintage surf-related and Hawaiian-themed art. In recent years, Greg and Linda converted their home property into a native plant habitat, saving 138,000 gallons of water a year and earning them a South Coast Water District Water Saver Award. Surviving Greg are his wife, Linda, his son, Gage Raymond, also of Capistrano Beach, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Karen and Clifford Craft of Box Elder, S.D., and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Ruth, and his brother, Gary Marquard. Arrangements are pending. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
