Gregory Royce McClintock (“Greg”) joined his Lord and Savior on February 8, 2022. He passed away at 78 years old after the blessing of spending cherished time with his family, who was by his side at his last breath. Greg was born in Glendale, California, on August 8, 1943, during the Second World War. He was raised in Sonora, California, attending Sonora Elementary School and then moving away to boarding school, where he earned a high school diploma from Monterey Bay Academy in La Selva Beach, California. Greg graduated from Loma Linda University, where he was elected Student Body President and majored in History. While attending Loma Linda, Greg met Vida “LynRae” Alexander at the La Sierra University Church in Riverside, California. They were married in the Chapel at the Riverside Inn on August 22, 1966. Greg obtained his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Southern California School of Law in 1969. After law school, Greg served as a trial lawyer and then an Assistant to the Antitrust Division’s Director of Operations at the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., under the Attorney General’s Program for Honor Law Graduates. In 1984 Greg and an entrepreneuring group of four other attorneys founded McClintock, Kirwan, Benshoof, Rochefort & Weston, a firm specializing in environmental law. Greg later served as a Partner at Mayer Brown, Akerman and Glasser Weil. From 1991 to 2006, one of Greg’s responsibilities was the role of General Counsel to the Western States Petroleum Association, providing legal guidance and litigation support. Greg is also credited with negotiating the consent decrees for many of the major Superfund sites on the West Coast and for spearheading environmental review for some of the nation’s largest mergers and acquisitions. He was selected to serve as lead counsel in cases that have established new legal principles with respect to the Clean Air Act, as well as legal application of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Greg was distinguished by his resolve, love for his family, and refusal to complain. He chose to raise his family with LynRae in Malibu, California, despite the long daily commutes to his office in Los Angeles, because of its beautiful display of nature and the ocean. Outside of work, Greg was passionate about his family, surfing, and his charitable work with the Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club, where he served in various capacities over decades, including the Chair of the Board of Directors. He always persevered; doctors told Greg he would not walk again after sustaining spinal nerve damage, but he always put mind over matter and found a way to put one foot in front of the other, eventually recovering-in-full to walk his daughter Saxon, down the aisle at her wedding to Patrick Luke. Loving and steadfast, Greg provided a wonderful life for his children and his adoration for his grandchildren was ever evident. Greg is preceded in death by his father, Robert Wesley McClintock, his mother, Mavis June Hauser Walters, and his brother, Ronald McClintock. He leaves behind a loving family including his sister, Lynda Langley; former spouse, LynRae Alexander McClintock; children, Courtlan Budman (Rob), Camden Schobert (Matthew), Gavin McClintock (Cannon), and Saxon Luke (Pat); grandchildren, Connor Budman, Trey Schobert, Cecilia Schobert, Bishop Schobert, Margaret McClintock, Adeline McClintock, Charlotte McClintock, and Sierra Luke. Those who knew Greg knew of his love for the ocean which he likened to a religious experience; Psalm 46:1-3 says, "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.” Greg did not fear in life or in the transition of death. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to: Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club 2635 Pasadena Avenue Los Angeles, California 90031 or online at www.labgc.org/donate
