In Loving Memory of Gwyn B. Menzies

Mom is resting with Dad after a long, full life well lived. She was independent, handsome and sophisticated with wit, knowledge and experience. She loved to learn new things, was an avid reader and enthusiastic traveler. She was a good friend who maintained relationships through time and distance. She enjoyed designing her environment with an eye for color, texture, art and antiques. She was a fierce advocate for family with thoughtful opinions, insightful advice and steadfast support.

I will miss our political discussions, the family vacations, the incisive insights, but most of all, the unconditional love and support. There is now a hole in my life, but she is in a better place – Alan

My Mother-in-law of eighteen years was a lovely, gentle mannered woman. Mom was kind, generous and particular in her decisions. She thoroughly enjoyed entertaining friends in her home, and for a great many years enjoyed preparing gourmet meal courses. She loved us, her grand children and deceased husband Bunk. I will always remember our Mother as my being her daughter– Darlene

Please add your memories, stories and comments to the following excerpts from those who knew her…

John Bowron Jr … “my aunt was simply one of the nicest, classiest, generous person that I ever met … She lived a long, wonderful life … she is with your Dad now and they are smiling …”

Bob Menzies Jr … “She was an amazing woman and wonderful aunt …”

Michele Menzies … “Gwyn was like an onion. The more you got to know her, the more you learned. I enjoyed traveling with her and the rest of the clan. I learned that Tumi luggage is the best. I have learned etiquette tips from her through the years. I always enjoyed receiving beautiful Papyrus cards from her for Christmas. Her home at the Fountains was lovely, decorated with interesting pieces representing many cultures from her world travels. I’m a better person for knowing her…”

Janet Blomquist …”I always felt very close to the Menzies … your Mother became a part of that closeness for me. There are so many memories … One of them is the time (Gwyn) and I made a picnic lunch and took you “Kids” to the Fleishhacker Zoo swimming pool. As I remember, it was a typically overcast day. Gwyn and I sat bundled up visiting, while you Kids were freezing in the salt water pool which was filled directly from the ocean only a few blocks away and not heated …”

Erik Blomquist … “one of our favorite people, she was classy, smart, artistic, funny, beautiful, dignified, respectful … I will especially miss my conversations with your Mom about operas we’ve both seen …”

Melanie Johnson … “She was truly special to so many people …”
