Jerald Martin Checkoway

Jerald M Checkoway (Jerry), 78  of Laguna Hills, Ca passed away on January 10, 2021. Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Herman H (HY) and his mother, Erna B Levene Checkoway. Jerry was born Jan 10, 1943 in Lynn Mass to Herman H and Erna B (Levene) Checkoway.  He married Faye Tucker Checkoway on July 5, 1975. After graduation from Lakewood High School, he attended Long Beach City College and Fullerton Jr College before joining the Navy. After serving in the Navy ( USS Sutherland ), he  returned to civilian life and worked in the Computer industry as a Field Engineer and Customer Service Manager for Sorbus, Digital Equipment, STC, Raytheon, just to name a few. Jerry had a passion for motorcycles, classic cars, and antique knifes. His first love was motorcycles and he spent many years riding and restoring them. He enjoyed owning several classic cars, including a Henry J 1955 Thunderbird and a 1974 Jensen Healey. Along the way he owned a bicycle shop in Tustin Ca. Jerry also loved to learn new words and phrases in many languages. That foundation was put to use during his Navy tour in, Japan, Philippines, and Vietnam and then travels with his wife to Europe, Caribbean, French Polynesia, and Mexico. But he also had time to learn to play organ, guitar, and ukulele, and was a member of Aloha Strummers. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Faye Checkoway. Jerry cherished his many friends and he was fortunate to have had friendships that lasted his lifetime. ❤️❤️  Pending services at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego, Ca.
