John L. Owen

John L. Owen, “Jack” to family and friends, passed away August 19, 2023 after a downturn in health. Jack was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota May 5, 1928 to his father Owen T. Owen and mother Else Owen. Jack graduated from the University of Southern California and is a veteran of WWII. Jack enjoyed success as a radio announcer, advertising executive, second selectman and actor.

A long-time resident of Southern California, Jack lived to the age of 95. Jack leaves behind his daughter, Kathy, and sons, Robert and Doug. He leaves five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many other members of his extraordinary family. Jack is missed by many close friends.

Jack met his wife Betty in Colorado. They lived in Connecticut and Illinois before arriving in California. Jack and Betty enjoyed sixty-seven years of marriage before Betty passed away in January of 2022. Jack was a beacon of light for his family and was always full of passion for life. He was supportive, encouraging, optimistic and courageous. Words cannot describe how much he is missed.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at Miramar National Cemetery in Miramar, California September 29, 2023.
