John R Gaffkey

John (Jack) R. Gaffkey, 87, of Laguna Woods, California, passed away August 11, 2023.

Born 1936 in Detroit, Michigan, parents John Gaffkey and Jean Morgan Gaffkey Idolski, of Detroit Michigan. He married Carol Christine McCabe on October 12, 1957 in Detroit Michigan. Jack and Carol enjoyed 55 great years together. Carol passed away December 31, 2012.

After relocating to San Jose, California, Jack had a long and successful career in construction and opened Gaffkey Construction in 1979. Jack and Carol ran a successful business for many years.

Jack had a love for outdoor adventures and great friends. He often shared great memories made during the years of motor home camping and softball tournaments. In his later years, he enjoyed going to casinos with his friends from the Laguna Woods Players Club in California.

Survived by his children, son John C. Gaffkey, daughters Lynn LaTendresse, Lisa Gaffkey, Dana Blevins (daughter-in-law) and Jennifer Trotter. Grandchildren Travis LaTendresse, Trey Trotter, Kaden Trotter and Matthew Trotter along with his large extended family including the Finley’s, Burke’s and McCabe’s.

If there is one thing his girls are grateful for, it’s that he taught us that there was nothing any of us could not do.

Dad, Jack, Gramps, Papa…we will carry your memory and positive spirit in our hearts forever. You will be missed.

Mass will be held on September 4, 2023, 1pm at Saint Nicholas Church which is located at 24252 El Toro Road in Laguna Woods, California.
