In Loving Memory of Lois Marilyn Smith
July 22, 1930 (Nebraska City, NE) – April 22, 2026 (Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo, CA)
Lois Marilyn Smith was born in Nebraska City, Nebraska, where she was raised on a family farm surrounded by the rhythms of rural life. Her years on the farm were among her fondest, filled with memories of hard work, laughter, and the simple joys of country living. Lois attended a one-room country schoolhouse before continuing her education in high school, where she played French Horn in the band and was honored as Prom Queen several times. It was during her time at Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska, that she met Chuck, who would become her husband and the father of their five children.
In 1958, Lois and Chuck moved their growing family to Lomita, Southern California, in pursuit of better opportunities for Chuck’s teaching and coaching career. Two years after settling in California, they purchased their first home in West Garden Grove and welcomed their youngest child. Lois embraced life in California, finding joy in new experiences and friendships. In 1969, the family relocated to Placentia, California, where Lois continued to provide a loving and nurturing home. Even after her divorce from Chuck in 1975, Lois remained devoted to her family, staying in Placentia until 1988 before moving to Denver, CO, to care for her sister battling cancer. From 1993 to 2009, Lois split her time between California and Nebraska City, always devoted to those she loved. Her final years were spent in Murrieta, CA, at The Colony community, and most recently in Laguna Niguel, where she could be close to her daughter.
Lois was a dedicated wife and mother, truly a “homemaker extraordinaire.” She delighted in cooking delicious meals, sewing beautiful creations, and supporting her children in all their endeavors. Christmas was a particularly magical time in the Smith home, with Lois orchestrating every detail—from the elegant decorations to the homemade cookies and exquisitely wrapped gifts that resembled works of art.
Known for her impeccable sense of style, Lois took great pride in her appearance, always dressed in the latest fashions and exuding grace and charm. Her beauty, sweetness, and sense of humor endeared her to all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and cherished family traditions.
Lois is survived by her loving family: her son Richard Smith and daughter-in-law Judith Smith; daughter Kathryn Smith; granddaughter Shawna Powell; grandson Robert Smith; great-granddaughter Hailey Powell; and great-grandson Austin Powell.
She will be deeply missed, but her memory and the love she shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
