Lucia (Lucy) Zavala Devich, the wife of Robert R. Devich, a Retired Associate Justice of the California Court of Appeal, passed at their home, in Mission Viejo, California, on August 28, 2018. Lucy was 72 years of age and passed from the illness of cancer. When the good Lord called, He accepted the extended hands of the beautiful and lovely Lucia Zavala Devich. Lucy was born in a small town in Mexico called Guasave, Sinaloa Mexico, on August 20, 1946. She was raised in the City of Culiacan, Mexico (close to Mazatlan). Sadly, at an early age, Lucy unfortunately lost her mother, Carmen Corona Cook, in an auto accident when Lucy was 13 years old. Her father Francisco eventually re-married another woman also named Carmen. He later passed in 2011. Lucy was happily married in Culiacan, Mexico, to Hector Beltran for 30 years, until his death, also from cancer, in 2000. They had three daughters, Marcella, Marianna, and Maribel. Lucy and Hector also raised Silvia Diarte as their daughter from the age of 8 years old. The proud Zavala family is large. Lucys family consists of Carmen, 3 brothers, 5 sisters, numerous brothers and sisters in laws, many grandchildren, cousins, aunts, and uncles through out the United States (U.S.) and Mexico. Family picnics and barbeques were always in style where family and friends were welcomed. Robert had also been married for 40 years to a lovely woman, Gloria Romero Devich, from 1959 to 2000. Gloria also passed in 2000 from a heart issue, approximately 5 months before Hector. Both of these deaths were a shock to Lucy and Robert respectively. A couple years later, Lucy and Robert began dating and were married in 2003 in a Catholic church in Mexicali. Followed by another ceremony in the San Marino home of Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Gilbert Ruiz and his wife Acela, to validate their marriage in the U.S. Lucy became a U.S. citizen in 2007. The union of Lucy and Robert was a loving and happy marriage for 15 years, from 2003 to 2018. Their life together was filled with family events and travels to exciting locations. They traveled extensively to France, Spain, Germany, and their favorite country of Italy. They also visited Cuba and found the country to be extremely exciting with the people being pleasant and friendly. They enjoyed cruises to Alaska and Panama. Despite their worldly travels, they were more likely to visit the famous cities and beaches of Mexico. Lucy acquired many friends during her lifetime. Those fortunate to know her, always loved being with her. Lucy was as spiritually devoted to her Catholic faith as any person could be. Her faith helped her overcome an early battle with cancer by participating in daily prayers and rosaries before the cross. Her faithful practice continued throughout her life. It was the foundation of who she was. And when given the news that the cancer had returned, her faith sustained her once again. She always faced problems related to her illness with a smile and a deep sense of gratitude for the life she had been given. Words can never express how much she will be missed. God take care of her. Lucy will be cremated. There will be a special Mass for her at St. Kilian Catholic Church, 26872 Estanciero Dr., Mission Viejo, Cal., 92691, on September 15, 2018, at 11:30AM, followed by a lunch reception at the church. Her urn will later be taken to Mexicali, Mexico and placed within a Zavala family crypt inside a Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your favorite church or charity with a prayer for Lucy. The families of Lucy and Robert express their deepest gratitude and blessings to the medical personnel/staff of Sea Crest Home Health and Hospice for the wonderful attention and dedication they gave to Lucy during her difficult moments. We know that Lucy is now at rest with God. Funeral Home: Pacific Cremation Society 22772 Centre Drive, Suite 130 Lake Forest, CA 92630
