Margaret Linda Werby, known to all as Meg, passed away peacefully at her Niguel Shores home in Dana Point, California at 4pm on October 13, 2026, at the age of 87.
She is survived by her sister, Janet Sáenz; her nieces, Charlotte and Laura; and her grandnephews, Güneş Ollín and Emilio--who all came to stay with her in her final months.
Meg was born on January 17, 1939, in Los Angeles, the second and last daughter of Knud Boldt from Denmark and Linda Mae Austin from Australia. She grew up in Pasadena, and later lived in Boston, where she was the first woman Vice President of a mortgage insurance company.
Meg had a gift for caring for others, and she looked after several people’s children over the years. She babysat two children in the Shores, Max and Jackson, who she came to love dearly, watching them grow into fine young men, and becoming good friends with their parents.
Animals were also close to her heart. She had two dogs, Pepper and Casey, and kept her niece's dog Bella's ashes blooming burgundy calla lilies in her garden every spring. Each year, she also placed a basket high in the Oklahoma Redbud tree on her front patio so that her “lovey-dovies” could nest there. Tending her roses and citrus, Meg found immense joy in her kitchen and garden. She loved the ocean and the beauty of the land, marveling at the hummingbirds.
Meg had a wonderful sense of humor, even when the going got tough--often cracking risque jokes. She was a favorite of the staff at the hospitals and rehab centers when, in her final year, she confronted dementia and limited mobility. When Meg came home, she was lovingly cared for at home by her nieces, Charlotte and Laura, along with other devoted caregivers, to whom the family is most grateful. Her ashes will be planted in our gardens and scattered at sea with champagne, following her wishes. For as Meg liked to say, “Wherever you go, you’ll be there.”
