Marilyn Rea Forsten

August 29, 1948 — May 30, 2022

A World Traveler, Cat Lover, Voracious Reader, Adventurous Diner, Mother of Two, and Loving Grandmother. Marilyn Rae Forsten of Irvine, California, passed away on May 30, 2022 at Saddleback Memorial Care Center with loved ones near. Born in Glasgow, Scotland to Weiko Forsten of Chicago, Illinois and Eloise Kvam of Fargo, North Dakota, Marilyn’s life was one of travel, food, exploration, reading, and love for animals, children, and Disneyland. The daughter of a foreign diplomat in the U.S. Department of State, Marilyn’s youth was spent touring the world. Ultimately her father was stationed as Ambassador to Bangladesh; there she met her late husband. The two moved to Los Angeles and had two sons before his passing in 1989. Later, Marilyn settled in Irvine where she resided with her son and spent her days caring for (and playing many dress-up games with) her two young granddaughters. Marilyn is survived by her two sons, Asef Quader (Jenn) and Rehan Quader (Jenna); her three grandchildren, Jamal, Jasmine, and Leila; her sweet kitty, Clovis; and her two grand-pups, Griffin and Hank. She valued simplicity, and asked that her body be donated to science and that no service be held. She also loved cats, and asked that any funds be donated to The Blue Bell Foundation for Cats in Laguna Beach, California in lieu of flowers or gifts. (This beautiful place gives a home to cats when their owners pass on or are unable to care for them.)
