Mission Viejo, California – The world lost a brilliant spark on Monday May 11th, 2026 with the sudden and unexpected passing of Marilyn Stout (nee Overskei), aged 79.

Born on December 10th, 1946 in Nunda, South Dakota, Marilyn lived life entirely on her own terms. She was a woman of striking beauty, both inside and out, possessing a magnetic presence that lit up every room she entered.

Marilyn was defined by her fierce independence and vibrant spirit. She refused to be slowed down by age, approaching every day with boundless energy, curiosity, and style. Whether she was playing Mahjong with her neighborhood friends, volunteering at the Library or going to the movies, plays or various exotic travel destinations around the world, she embraced freedom and self-reliance. She taught her family by example that life is meant to be lived boldly.

Beneath her strong, independent exterior beat an incredibly warm and loving heart. Her greatest joy was her family, to whom she gave unconditional support and fierce protection. She was the typical proud mom and grandmother who constantly bragged about her daughters and grandchildren. She was the ultimate matriarch—compassionate, protective, and deeply devoted to those she held dear.

She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, strength, and beautiful memories. She is survived by:

Her devoted daughters, Tiffany Gallagher (Ian) and Amber Paxton (David)Her cherished grandchildren Cheyenne (Jens), Samantha (Will), Jack, Grace and CarsonHer beautiful great grandchildren Annika, Emberly, Valor, Paxton, Samantha and BenjaminHer beloved brothers David, Timothy and sister Julie (Samuel)Her wonderful nieces and nephew Teresa, Erica, Sage and TheoA wide circle of deeply loved friends and extended family from all over the country

She was preceded in death by her parents, Orvin Overskei and Zemova Overskei (nee Doerr) and sister-in-law Katherine Overskei.

A celebration of Marilyn’s vibrant life will be held at a later time in July. More information for family and friends to follow.
