MaryLee was born to Willard and Mary McKee in McKeesport, Pennsylvania on May 24, 1940. Soon after, her family moved to Cleveland, Ohio where she attended elementary school and picked up the nickname, Mickey. That nickname stayed with her for the rest of her life. During high school, Mickey moved with her family to Chardon, Ohio where she attended Chardon High School and met Bob Horn. After graduating in 1958, Mickey worked for Parker-Hannifin Corporation as the assistant to the Corporate Attorney.
Mickey started dating Bob in 1960, and they were married on July 29, 1961. They were still holding hands 64 years later! Mickey and Bob began their lives together in Cleveland, Ohio and their first child, Scott, was born in 1962, followed by Kevin in 1964. Just after Kevin was born, Mickey convinced Bob that California was the place for them. So they moved to Rialto, California where their daughter, Kendra, was born in 1966. Family became the driving factor in Mickey’s life as she and Bob raised their children in a house full of love and laughter. The family spent several years in Rialto before moving to Riverside, California in 1977.
As her children grew up, Mickey also looked forward to getting back into the workforce. She joined Rialto Unified School District (RUSD) in 1974 as an Office Assistant at Eisenhower High School, where she could work while the kids were at school but still be home when the kids were home. A few years later, she accepted a position at the District Office, where she was promoted to Director of Personnel for Certificated Employees. Mickey became a trusted confidant and was well respected due to her calm demeanor and dedication to those around her. She was instrumental in hiring numerous teachers and administrators for the District. Mickey retired in 2004 and has remained close with her many RUSD friends.
Mickey and Bob moved to Mission Viejo, California shortly after she retired. Travel had always been a big part of their lives, and increased once they were both retired. Those trips, including cruises and travels to many diverse countries with close friends and family, were some of their favorite times together. Beyond their travels, they attended just about every event in the lives of their children and grandchildren. They became the beloved couple at sporting events, school events, and anywhere else that family gathered.
Mickey is survived by her husband, Bob; three children, Scott Horn (Kim), Kevin Horn (Melissa), and Kendra Taylor (Brian); five grandchildren, Katie Taylor, Josh Taylor (Maddie), Zack Taylor, Garrett Horn, and Nicholas Horn, and two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Owen Taylor. She was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren and adored her great-grandchildren. They all brought the joy to Mickey’s life that she brought to theirs and so many others. Mickey was vivacious and always willing to try something new. She made you feel special regardless of who you were. The world had Mickey for almost 86 wonderful years before she passed peacefully on January 19, 2026. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be dearly missed.
