Richard Dean Curtis, 86, of Lake Forest, California, passed away on October 22, 2023. Born on November 22, 1936, in Decatur, Illinois, Richard was a beloved husband, father, grandfather of nine, and great grandfather of ten. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Marcia Curtis; his sons, Ken Curtis and Tim Curtis, daughters Julie Maynard and Robin Hartz. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Richard F. Curtis, and Dorothy Imogene Curtis.
Richard had a passion for life and touched the hearts of those around him. He showed us the importance of kindness and humility in all endeavors. In his last years, he faced numerous health challenges, but tried his best to maintain compassion and empathy. Richard cherished family reunions and the time spent reminiscing with older family members. He had a deep love for movies and big band music. In his youth, Richard played the French horn in the high school band, as a testament to his love for music. Mr. C, as he was known to some of the players he coached, loved baseball, and passed that love onto his children.
After completing his education at Lakeview High School in Illinois, Richard embarked on two successful careers. He dedicated over eighteen years to the water and gas industry, working at Mueller Company. At the age of fifty-one, Richard fearlessly embraced a new chapter in his life and ventured into entrepreneurship as a small business owner in the printing industry.
Richard's legacy will live on through the memories he created with his loved ones. His warmth and generosity will be forever cherished. He leaves behind a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Plans are underway on how to best honor Richard. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made in Richard's name to a charity of your choice.
May he rest in peace.
