Robert Alfred Martinez

September 14, 1934 — November 15, 2021

Robert Martinez, 87, passed away surrounded by loved ones in Mission Viejo on November 15th 2021 due to natual causes. Robert was born on September 14th, 1934 in Tujunga, CA. Robert graduated from Verdugo Hills High School in 1952 and in 1957 he enlisted into the Army and served in Germany for two years as a Specialist E4. After being honorably discharged, Robert joined the United States Postal Service, which kickstarted a 35-year career in the postal service. In 1968, Robert met Carmen Umana through his brother-in-law in Los Angeles, CA. They fell in love almost instantly and became lifelong partners. Robert and Carmen got married in 1969 and he adopted Carmen’s son Eric who was 2 years old at the time. Robert was an example of a caring and loving father, who was determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world. Robert and Carmen were married for 52 years. When Robert wasn’t delivering the mail, he was an avid reader, passionate tennis enthusiast, and enjoyed the occasional basketball pickup game. Anyone who knew Robert knew him as Bobby, Uncle Bobby, Tio Bobby, or just Bob. He was loved and respected on both sides of the family and he was the measuring stick for whom a man should be like. He was a loving father and spouse and was everything a family could ask for. Robert is survived by his wife Carmen Martinez, his son Eric Martinez, his three brothers Adolph Martinez Jr., Arthur Martinez, Joel Martinez, and his sister Lilian Arechiga. Robert is preceded in death by his father Adolph Martinez Sr., his mother Delores Martinez, and his sister Alma Merriman. Robert will be honored in a celebration of life ceremony with a short ash scattering ceremony.
