On June 18, 2020 we lost a husband, father, grandfather and uncle. Known as Poppy to his grandkids, Robert Arthur DePol died peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was 92 years old. Born July 16, 1927 in Passaic, NJ, he was the eldest of three siblings. His parents, Marie and Frank DePol, passed to him their love of family traditions, of big family gatherings, good Italian wine, and love of the outdoors. Golfing and gardening were activities that brought him great joy; his home-grown tomatoes will always be a great source of family pride. Growing up, he was a graduate of Seton Hall University where he received a degree in accounting. He was a veteran of the US army and served in the Korean War. On June 20, 1953 he married the love of his life, Barbara Mitchell, who survives him. They were married 67 years. Survived by his daughters Cheryl Jacobs and Donna Peters; sons Richard and Bruce DePol. His grandchildren, Alison, Aaron, Lindsey, Kristi, Gray, Emily, Katie and Michele continue his legacy and memory. A service will be held on July 1st at St. Killian Church in Mission Viejo. Due to the restrictions of the day, mass will be for family only. He will be interned at Ascension Cemetery, but his spirit will live on forever.
