Roy LeRoy Edward Miller age 73 was born January 29, 1949, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and unexpectedly he was called home to Jesus on February 22, 2022 with his wife, three sons, daughter-in-law and grandson by his side in Mission Viejo, California. Life was not always easy. Growing up, when he was just 11 years old his father left. At 15 his mother, along with himself and his little sister moved from North Carolina to Minnesota to be near her family. His oldest brother stayed in North Carolina. As a result, he became determined and strong deciding then, that his future would be solid. At the age of 15 he began working for KFC and at the same time he met the love of his life, Barbara (McMillin) Miller. His mom used to tease him saying that was the reason they came to Minnesota, to meet Barb. In June 1971, he married her and went on to start their family. Over the next 16 years he climbed the ladder, ending his employment as District Manager for KFC. He and Colonel Sanders became friends over the years and Roy loved visiting him and listening to his stories. In 1981 when he was just 32 years old Roy bought his first Kentucky Fried Chicken store in San Clemente, California. He went on to purchase four more stores in Oceanside, Fallbrook, San Juan Capistrano in Costa Mesa, California. His community mattered greatly for him. He always was quick to help others with his generosity, especially the elderly, the Marines, and those down on their luck. He was a long-term member of the Exchange Club in San Clemente and in 2008 served as their President. Being of Irish descent he loved being part of their annual Saint Patrick’s Day event. On any given day you could find Roy on a golf course or entertaining family, friends or strangers with his quirky and funny stories. He had a way with people and those that were blessed with crossing his path, quickly came to love and admire him. Roy always put his family first continuing to help his mother until she passed away February 15, 2008. But of all the accomplishments that he made over his 73 years; he was most proud of his family. He leaves behind his wife (Barbara McMillin) Miller, Sons; Christopher Miller (Niki), Sean Miller (Amber) and Michael Miller. His granddaughters Delaney and Shea Grandsons Wyatt, Noah, and Logan. His brother Torrens Miller (Sandra) from Charlotte, NC and sister Martha Glubka (Jim) from Yucaipa, CA. Sister-in-law Linda (McMillin) Pyle (Scott), and in brother-in-law Don McMillin He was predeceased by his Mother Shirley (Stone) Miller, Father-in-law Richard (Dick) McMillan, Mother-in-law Evelyn (McMillin), his niece Lisa Miller and nephew Jimmy Glubka. When interviewed for an article in 2014, after selling the San Clemente store he said, “I’ve got the ‘tired’ part down,” he said with a grin. “It’s the ‘RE’ that gives me trouble.” “Godspeed and you will always be in the hearts of many.
