Sharon Elaine Leuer October 10, 1937 - October 27, 2018 Sharon Elaine Bahan was born on October 10, 1937 to Joseph and Lillian Bahan of Downey, California. Sharon was the second of 5 children. She attended both St Matthias in Huntington Park and Our Lady of Perpetual Help for her primary school education. Sharon graduated from St Pius X High School in Downey. After high school Sharon became a part of a Catholic Youth Organization called the Downey Dolphins. It was there that she met the love of her life, Donald Leuer. Their courtship was one filled with faith and friendship. Donald and Sharon were married on February 2, 1957 in a lavish ceremony at OLPH. Shortly after their marriage Donald was called to active duty Navy and was sent to the Philippines. He was stationed at Naval Station Sangley Point. Sharon soon came and lived there with him. What an adventure that must have been for a young bride. Donald and Sharon welcomed the first of their 5 children while still in the Philippines. By 1960 Sharon was able to return to Downey with their daughter and Donald soon followed. They eventually bought their home on Cord Avenue where they raised their children. Sharon spent most of her time being a wonderful wife and mother, but also had hobbies of her own. She enjoyed playing tennis, taking cooking and craft classes. She was gifted at needlework, cross stitch, knitting, and almost anything craft related that she tried. In 1997 after Donald retired they decided to relocate to Lake Forest, California. The main reason Sharon was motivated to move was she had become a grandmother (Mimi), and she wanted to be closer to her grandchildren. We thought she was a great mother, but she was an even better "Mimi". Donald and Sharon never missed a sporting event, Boy Scout event, or school function. Sharon was proud of her 9 grandsons and 1 granddaughter. Spending time with them was the highlight of her day and it showed in her beautiful smile and never ending patience to play a game, read a book, or cook their favorite meal. Sharon also became active in her new community. She became part of a knitting group at their new parish, Santiago de Compostella Catholic Church in Lake Forest. She volunteered in the library there as well. Taking water aerobics classes and keeping herself fit were always part of her day. Sharon liked to be active, but really loved to settle in with a good book and was a voracious reader. In her final years Sharon suffered from Alzheimers Disease. Although it robbed her of so much, what remained was the sweetest and most gentle part of her. Throughout her disease her body and mind deteriorated but her loving spirit was so strong. Sharon passed peacefully in her sleep in her home surrounded by love on October 27, 2018. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Alzheimers Association or a donation to your local library.
