On the evening of Thursday, February 23, 2023, Susan “Sue” Joyce Jasper passed away at the age of 74. Sue was the beloved wife to Tom, and mother to Ryan Jasper and Bethany Holder. She was grandmother to Carter, Charles, and Holly. Sue was at the birth of all of her grandchildren and enjoyed making special quilts for each of them. She is also survived by her sister, Sally Ann Bradshaw, and Sally’s daughter, Katie Rogers. Sue was born on September 11, 1948 in Brookville, PA, daughter of Albert Wayne and Sara Caroline “Sally” (Deible) Snyder. She was raised by her mother, and lived with her grandparents, as her father died shortly after she was born. She graduated from Johnstown High School in 1966 and the Presbyterian (Presby) University Hospital’s registered nurse program in Pittsburgh, PA in 1969.
Sue met Tom, on a blind date when she was 17. After graduating from Presby, they married on August 23, 1969 at the Grove Ave Methodist church in Moxham, Johnstown, PA and then moved to California where Sue spent the remainder of her life. Sue worked as an RN for 25 years in Southern California in various positions including unit head nurse. Later, she pursued her passion for arts and crafts by opening the Artisans’ Depot craft store in San Clemente, CA in 1994. As a member of the San Clemente Downtown Business Association, she managed the local monthly art fair. After retiring, Sue and Tom moved to Cayucos on the California Central Coast. Sue enjoyed spending time with friends and family, never taking these relationships for granted.
Sue was a small person in stature but she left a big footprint. She was a talented quilter and home interior designer, a lady of great fashion sense, and a wonderful story teller. Sue enjoyed dining out, movie dates and traveling with Tom. They traveled all over the world together and when Sue was ill, she enjoyed watching slide show videos from their many trips. Sue had a great sense of humor, was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren always looked forward to making cookies with her. Sue was known for giving thoughtful advice. She would often say, “Something will happen to help you decide” when a loved one was tasked with a difficult decision. Perhaps most noteworthy, she was a dear and trusted long-term friend to many.
Early in 2017, Sue was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s/Dementia. Sue lived together with Tom until recently. She moved into a residential board and care home in September 2022 in Mission Viejo, CA to be close to her kids and grandkids who visited her often. Sue peacefully passed away with her family by her side.
