My dear mom, Valentina Grigorievna Alaverdova passed away at age 88 at her home in Laguna Niguel, California, on Monday, April 16, 2018. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 23, 1929 in Novosibirsk, Russia to Grigory and Valentina Safonovs. Valentina attended school in her native town of Novosibirsk and later went on to graduate from the University of Leningrad with a degree in Foreign Languages. Her career took her many places: Moscow, Berlin, Vienna, Baku, and Kharkov. She married Robert Alaverdov. Together, they had one daughter Nelly. Valentina and Robert shared over 60 years of life together. They met in Moscow, lived in Baku, Azerbaijan, moved to Kharkov, Ukraine and later joined their family in California. Valentina was a woman of many talents. She spoke 3 languages and enjoyed reading in all of them. Her intelligence was captivating and made her center of attention. She was very creative. Her mind was always occupied with images of beautiful clothes, art, and remarkable event arrangements. A lot of people enjoyed wearing unique and fashionable dresses that she made. Her string and macram art caught the eye of many. Her friends and family loved her cooking, especially her Siberian pelmeni, belyashi recipes and her famous cakes. Valentina was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, wonderful mother-in-law, and doting great grandma. She is survived by her beloved husband Robert, daughter Nelly, grandson Vadim, and great grandchildren Elise Valentina and Leo Adrian. She lived a long and interesting life full of memories and events. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Alden's residence in Laguna Niguel. Private family only burial will follow on Saturday, April 28 with scattering ashes at sea from Dana Point coast.
